Lech Walesa decorated with the Star of Lithuania's Millennium
On 4th September 2008, President Lech Walesa was invited to a meeting in the Embassy of Lithuania during which he received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mr. Petras Vaitiekunas a Star of Lithuania's Millennium order, in recognition for his merits Lithuania.
On congratulating Lech Walesa, the Ambassador of Lithuania Egidijus Meilunas said that as the leader of Solidarity and later, as the President of Poland, Walesa 'laid foundations to good neigbourly relations between Lithuania and Poland'.
On his part, the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked Lech Walesa for his stance in 1991, when the Soviet Union brought the tanks on the streets of Vilnius after Lithuania declared independence.
This order was founded in 2007 on the occasion of the thousandth anniversary of the first known written remark about Lithuania.
So far, less than 20 people received this award, and they include Adam Michnik and Radosław Sikorski.
