The 2008 Lech Walesa Prize for King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
This Prize is thought to be given in recognition of services towards interreligious dialogue, promotion of tolerance, cultures and civilizations understanding, international cooperation to bring peace and also of the charity activity.
- King Abdullah is the author of interreligious initiative (The first stage addressed to the believers of Islam, Christianity and Judaism), ‘the main aim of the initiative is to create the path to cultural awareness, understanding and to effective cooperation in order to solve civilization problems.' King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud in June 2008 hosted the Inter-Muslim conference, which took place in Mecca, and in July 2008 organized the Interreligious Forum in Madrid, with participation of King Juan Carlos and over 200 representatives of three religions including participants from Israel and Vatican. The next stage of the interreligious initiative was to arrange a meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations (12-13.11.2008), with participation of country leaders, world leaders, prime ministers and other important representatives (G.W. Bush G .Brown, S. Perez, C. Livni, Kings of Spain, Jordan and Bahrain, Emir of Qatar, Presidents of Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Philippines and Finland). This initiative was supported by N. Sarkozy, G. Brown i A. Merkel in their Letters to King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud. Regardless the initiative itself in November 2007 during the official visit the King Abdullah met with the Pope Benedict XVI.
- In 2002 on King's Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud initiative The League of Arab States proclaimed non-violent initiative during the Summit in Beirut in order to end the Arabian- Israeli conflict, the offer was submitted to Israel - in exchange for a withdrawal from all Arab territories occupied since 1967 and solving the problem of Palestinian refugees - full normalization of relations with all Arab states and Israel. This initiative was confirmed by The League of Arab States Summit in Riyadh in 2007 and that is a very important point in non-violent decision making process including ‘Peace Process in Annapolis'.
- In 2005 on King's Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud initiative the Extraordinary Islamic Organization Summit in Mecca admitted plan of action for 10 years with the main aim to promote tolerance and the goal to fight against extremism and terrorism.
- King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is devoted to Charity Actions (such as financial support of building new facilities for the poor, in Saudi Arabia but also supporting abroad actions (cultural actions that is: the Dialogue Promotion Center was established in August 2008, Cultural Exchange and His Majesty's name Education Program), necessary help for the victims of natural disasters, help for undeveloped countries which citizens suffer from hunger, also financing the operation on Siamese twins in National Guard Hospital in Riyadh. So far there were more that ten operations on Siamese Twins from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sudan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Morocco, Iraq, Oman and Poland.
